Varför armering är viktigt här
Dog runs need three things at once: drainage, hygiene and a surface that cannot be dug out. Bare earth fails all three. A confined stone surface drains urine and wash-down straight through, cannot be excavated, and gives a firm consistent footing that is kinder on joints than concrete.

- Mark out the area and excavate to the depth of your sub-base plus the grid depth plus your infill blinding.
- Lay a woven geotextile across the formation, lapping joins by at least 300mm. This stops the sub-base and the subsoil mixing.
- Lay and compact the sub-base: 100mm MOT Type 1 over a woven geotextile, laid to allow wash-down to drain. Compact in layers rather than all at once.
- Blind the sub-base with a thin layer of grit sand and screed it level. This is what gives you a flat finished surface.
- Push-fit the grids together across the area, working from one edge. Cut around obstacles with a jigsaw or fine-tooth saw.
- Fill the cells: Rounded-edge 10mm gravel filled level and blinded, so it is kind on pads. Work the fill in with a stiff brush so no cell is left hollow.
- Check the finished level. Nothing should stand proud of the cell walls, and no cell should be left under-filled.
Most installations are straightforward groundwork. The grids themselves push-fit together and need no fixings, adhesive or specialist tools.
Vilket gitterdjup?
The 30mm heavy duty grid, filled with a rounded-edge stone. It gives the firm, washable, undiggable surface a run needs.
If you are between two options, take the heavier duty one. The cost difference across a typical project is small next to the cost of lifting and relaying a surface that was under-specified.

Using sharp angular stone in a run dogs stand on all day. Specify a rounded-edge stone here even though angular is the default elsewhere.

Is gravel comfortable for dogs?
Filled level and blinded with fines, it gives a firm even surface. Use rounded-edge stone where dogs will be on it all day.
Can it be disinfected?
Yes. It drains freely, so wash-down and disinfectant pass through rather than pooling.
Will dogs dig through it?
The grid structure makes the surface effectively undiggable, which is one of the main reasons kennels specify it.
Grass or gravel for a daycare yard?
Gravel where hygiene and wash-down matter most, grass for larger exercise areas that get lighter use.
How do we manage waste and hygiene?
Solids are picked as normal; liquids and wash-down drain straight through rather than pooling, which is the hygiene advantage over concrete.
Can dogs get their claws caught?
Not with the cells filled level and blinded. The surface reads as firm gravel, not as an open grid.
